This page explains what information Berne & Co Accountancy Services Ltd collects when you use berneandco.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately plain and only collect what we need.
Who we are
Berne & Co Accountancy Services Ltd is a company registered in Northern Ireland (company number NI742552). Our registered office is 171 Kingsway, Belfast, BT17 9RY. For anything to do with your data, email info@berneandco.com. We are the “data controller” for the information described here.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you request our free guide or get in touch, we collect your name and email address. If you book a call, the scheduling is handled by Calendly, where you provide your name, email and a chosen time.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we use cookies and similar technology to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, the type of device and browser, and how you arrived. We do this with Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (see below). These tools give us general, non-identifying information, and Clarity automatically hides sensitive on-screen content.
Cookies and analytics
A cookie is a small file your browser stores. We use cookies to understand and improve how the site works.
- Google Analytics (provided by Google) gives us anonymous statistics — visitor numbers, popular pages, and general location and device information.
- Microsoft Clarity (provided by Microsoft) shows us anonymised session recordings and heatmaps so we can see where visitors get stuck and improve the site. Clarity masks text you type and other sensitive content by default.
When you first visit, a short notice lets you know we use cookies. You can control or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time; blocking them won’t stop the site working.
How we use your information
- To send you the guide you asked for, and follow-up emails about it.
- To respond to your enquiries and arrange calls.
- To send occasional emails with helpful content and updates, where you’ve given us your details — you can unsubscribe at any time.
- To understand how the site is used so we can make it better.
We do not sell your information to anyone.
Email marketing
Our emails are sent using Mailchimp. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time — we’ll stop emailing you promptly. You can also email info@berneandco.com to be removed.
Who we share it with
We only share information with the trusted providers that help us run the site and our emails, and only so they can provide that service: Google (analytics), Microsoft (Clarity), Mailchimp (email), Calendly (call bookings) and our website host. Each handles data on our behalf under its own terms. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your contact details for as long as you’re happy to hear from us, and remove them when you unsubscribe or ask us to. Analytics data is retained for a limited period in line with Google’s and Microsoft’s standard settings.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, stop using it for marketing, or object to certain uses. To do any of these, just email info@berneandco.com and we’ll sort it. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Other websites
Our site links to other websites (for example when you book a call). We’re not responsible for their privacy practices, so please check their own policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
